Today we’re going to talk about preparing your home for an Open House. Your house is now listed and you want as many eyes on your home as possible. Your Realtor® is going to schedule 2 types of Open Houses. One is the Broker Tour for all the local Agents to come and preview your home. The second is an open house for the general public. So there are four things that you need to do to get ready for these open houses:
Make sure the house is completely clean. If you can get a professional cleaner to come in, that would be great. There’s nothing like a first impression, and you want a good impression for everybody visiting your home.
Make arrangements for the pets in your home. It’s too stressful for them to have strangers around so get them secured in or out of the home and pick up all signs of pets including the little presents that they leave in the front and backyards. Pick up pet beds, food bowls, leashes, and toys. Make sure it’s completely clear.
Get rid of your valuables. Put them in a safe place, and include your prescription drugs with those valuables. Your REALTOR will be at the Open House for the entire time, but it’s better safe than sorry.
Leave during Open Houses and private showings. The last thing you want is to be in the home while strangers are walking through and critiquing it. It’s just better for you to be away.
During this time it’s just not going to feel like it’s your home anymore. There are just a couple of things that I can say to help you through it – hang in there and trust your REALTOR. It will all be worth it in the end when your home sells.
